When ghost comes near McGregor Ghost: hello there. 4:27 Danny: ight, imma head out. This disagreement between King and Kubrick in terms of the hotel burning v. freezing is interesting to me, as it seems to reflect the differences in interpretation of hell by Dantes Inferno and Miltons Paradise Lost. Dantes hell burns, which is the more modern take; but Miltons hell freezes. Although it is not horrible, the story is very complete, the director and the screenwriter are very powerful, so a complicated story, compressed and arranged, does not feel cumbersome at all. Need to be reminded that, unlike the book, the changes are quite large, strengthening the connection with the Shining.

When this film first came out, I didn't think it was that frightening. But it lodged in the back of my brain and grew fangs over the years. Sleep is what Ill catch watching this movie no Dr needed. I wanted so bad to like this. The trailer made it seem cool. It wasn't so so bad but it just could have been better. That mental library= Living memory system' memory palace. They are putting esoteric techniques right in blockbuster movies. This story is chock full of them.

I hope they're as faithful to the book as a film always; different medium, I know. But, if they keep the book ending then the almost 40 year wait will be totally worth it. BTW. Read both books; rewatch The Shining, then see Doctor Sleep.

OMG 40 years ago was released shining ! I swear this is best sequel ever ! Better watch shining before to better understand this movie. On of the best movie of last years. The movie was well acted and perfectly shot, but it isn't even close to be as scary of as great as the shining is. But it is still a nice ride with some Good ideas. If you liked the shining I would recomand checking this one out and of you didn't like the shining you shoud skip this one. I am a fan of Shining. Obviously I had certain expectations. However, the problem is not that it is bad sequel, but that it is no sequel at all. Kubrick's Shining was a psychological thriller. You were not asked to buy the story of ghosts. Everything could be explained in terms of Jack's cabin fever and delusions. Here you asked to buy the story of some kind of vampires somehow, unintelligibly, related to the hotel, which has no ground whatsoever in Shining.

6 for the film itself: 3 as a sequel of Shining. I give 5 being very generous.

The book ending was way Better and had more heart.
